Originally built as Dorothy for the Iowa Storm Chasing Network, the vehicle was initially designed to go near tornadoes and not into them like the Dominator. Dorothy was a fundraised tank with just over $5000 going into the build, the vehicle was completed in 2014 and pressed into service the same year. The vehicle was in service for only one year before being decommissioned in 2015 due to issues with the DOT regarding the cab window dimensions and being to heavy for most dirt roads. Dorothy was partially rebuilt with the intent of return to service, however the team lost interest and the project was shelved. Dorothy would stay in storage up until 2020.
In 2020, we made contact with the Iowa Storm Chasing Network, this would lead us to the vehicles owner Brennan Jontz who expressed interest in a possible sale. After negotiating on a price the vehicle was towed from Iowa to Georgia on November 21st. While paying off the vehicle we got started doing design work on how to make the Stormpiercer as efficient as possible, after multiple revisions a finalized design was accepted for the rebuild. The Stormpiercer has been paid off on April 27th, 2021 and we are now working on the next phase which is to secure vendors and funding to get the vehicle operational by late 2022. As of February we have vendors in Arizona ready to take on the project, now it's just a matter of funding to get the first tornado tank of Dixie Alley ready for service.
